COVID-19: Restrictions and Sanctions (17 March)

Due to the emergency, the Hungarian government introduced further restrictions. This government decree enters into force on 17 March.

 

The following is a summary of the major changes that have taken place on March 17, 2020, affecting all our lives:

• The borders of Hungary are closed; only Hungarian citizens can enter the country.

• Organizing and participating in music and dance events is prohibited.

• All events with over 10 participants (instead of the earlier 100 people limit) are prohibited, except for religious ceremonies, weddings and funerals.

• All sporting events can only be held behind closed doors.

• Museums, cinemas, libraries and other cultural institutions are closed temporarily.

• Shops are only open between 6 a.m. and 3 p.m. - except for groceries and tobacco stores, petrol stations, and pharmacies.

 

Anyone who does not abide by the provisions above will be held accountable for misdemeanor and will be punished with a minimum of HUF 5,000 and a maximum of HUF 500,000. Compliance with the regulations is monitored by the police.

 

The Minister for Human Resources will prepare a list of those pursuing an education in secondary or tertiary health care, college or university undergraduate health care, undergraduate social work, and health and social accredited vocational training, who may be involved in the mitigation of the emergency.
