Dear Colleagues, Dear Current and Former Students,
War is raging in our neighbourhood: Ukraine and Russia are at war. The military offensive that began on 24 February and the recent escalation of fighting in eastern Ukraine have led to a steady flow of displaced populations, with basic water, gas and electricity supplies threatened on both sides of the conflict. Several civilian casualties have been reported in the press. The military conflict is generating a humanitarian crisis, with up to several million civilians estimated to be displaced.
This is a dire situation and the University of Pécs always tries to help those in need.
I am sure that every citizen of the University of Pécs has thought about what they can do, how they can help efficiently. It is very important that we organize our relief efforts. We need to make sure through coordination and expertise that helps goes where it is most needed so that our donations make an impact.
Our university has partnered with the Hungarian Red Cross, which, along with other national charities, has started to work in a coordinated way to help refugees from the war zone. To this end, the organisation is launching a nationwide fundraising campaign to help those affected by the situation in Ukraine. Donations received will be used for humanitarian activities.
As a member of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), the Hungarian Red Cross' primary mission is to help people to the best of its ability in these trying times. Its humanitarian work for those affected by the war can be supported by calling the 1359 donation line or by making a donation to the following account:

Шановні Колеги, шановні нинішні та колишні Студенти!
По сусідству вирує війна: воюють Україна та Росія. Через військові атаки, які почалися 24 лютого, та недавню ескалацію бойових дій на сході України населення продовжує залишати територію, а основні постачання води, газу та електроенергії з обох сторін конфлікту під загрозою. ЗМІ повідомляли про декілька жертв серед мирного населення. Військовий конфлікт породжує гуманітарну кризу, за оцінками, мільйони мирних жителів змушені покинути свої домівки.
Це складна ситуація. Пейчський університет завжди намагається допомогти потрапившим в біду.
Я впевнений, що кожен „громадянин” університету замислювався над тим, що він міг би зробити, як він міг би ефективно допомогти. Дуже важливо, щоб ми це робили професійно та свідомо: добра воля не повинна бути втрачена, кожне пожертвування має бути в відповідному місці, і це має бути справжньою допомогою.
Партнером нашого університету є Угорський Червоний Хрест, який разом з іншими національними благодійними організаціями розпочав скоординовану роботу по допомозі біженцям із зони бойових дій. З цією метою організація проводить загальнонаціональний збір коштів для допомоги тим, хто цього потребує через ситуацію в Україні. Вхідні пожертви використовуються на гуманітарну діяльність.
Як член Міжнародної федерації товариств Червоного Хреста та Червоного Півмісяця (IFRC), головне завдання Угорського Червоного Хреста полягає в тому, щоб допомагати людям у цей нелегкий час, включаючи їхню гуманітарну роботу для тих, хто потрапив у біду через війну.
