The management of the University of Pécs - on the initiative of the Faculty of Law - signed a letter of intent virtually on 31 March 2021 and in person on 21 October 2021 in Pécs, in which they formulated that the Kingdom of the Netherlands, in partnership with the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Budapest, the Embassy of Hungary in the Hague and the Dutch National Police, would establish a research centre at the Faculty of Law in Pécs, which would aim to achieve academic success in the field of combating human trafficking.

In cooperation with the founding organisations, the research centre will be responsible for conducting innovative theoretical and empirical research on the EU and international legal context of the fight against human trafficking.

"Human trafficking is an extremely dangerous crime for society, which by its very nature can only be tackled effectively if the international dimension of the crime is taken into account. This is why I consider it of utmost importance that

the Faculty of Law of Pécs, in cooperation with international and domestic partners, will try to contribute to the fight against human trafficking through its research activities.

We hope that the results of the research centre will prove useful for both theoretical and practical experts" – explained dr. Ágoston Mohay, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Law of Pécs, head of the project.

"It is important for the Dutch police to cooperate with the higher education sector in the fight against human trafficking, and

the Faculty of Law of the University of Pécs, which has a strong background in international projects and research on EU law and justice, can be an excellent partner in this field.

One of our goals with the centre is to achieve research results relevant to education, research and law enforcement, with the support of partners and the involvement of external resources. This will require not only theoretical but also empirical research." - said dr. Jorn van Rij, initiator of the research collaboration representing the Dutch National Police.
