A scoop of wine and fruit

The Research Institute of Viticulture and Enology of the University of Pécs and the Trüffel Confectionery of Pécs presented a refreshing novelty: the wine ice cream in a single scoop gives back the characteristic features of the wines used and the pleasant taste of the fruits. The collaboration resulted in three exciting wine ice creams, which were presented on 29 May in the confectionery's garden on Hársfa Street.

PTE SZBKI and Trüffel Confectionery have entered into a special collaboration to offer a truly unique and refreshing experience in the summer heat. The ice creams, made in the spirit of experimentation and commitment to quality ingredients, combine the excellent wines of the University of Pécs Winery and the masterful ice cream-making skills of Trüffel Cukrászda. The range includes

the light rosé melon, also known as Rose Melon, the refreshing Sauvignon Blanc lime, aka Green Breeze, and the harmonious Zenit pear flavour combination, Spicy Pear.

All three ice creams are the essence of summer, a real treat for adults. Although the alcohol content of the wine ice cream is negligible, precise measurements carried out in the research institute's laboratory suggest that this special dessert is more suited to the adult audience.

"It's a negligible amount, which is why I encourage everyone to consume this product safely! I think that we can also give a new flavour and a new impetus to showing the Hungarian winemakers who are in a more difficult situation a new direction on how to market their wines, for example by making ice creams, perfumes and other products," said Zoltán Madaras, the president of the SZBKI, who also shared that it would take roughly eight scoops of ice cream to get the equivalent of one decilitre of wine in an adult's body.

"It was a great honour to be asked by the Research Institute of Viticulture and Enology to produce these products," said Balázs Sztanics, Managing Director of Trüffel, and added: "We have tried to bring out the right quality and harmony of flavour from this partnership."

“The wine ice cream is not unique, as others have already made similar ones, but we are the first in Pécs, especially with three flavours at the same time, which character was born from the harmony of wine and fruits," said István Skultéti, the head confectioner, who also revealed that a bottle of wine is enough to prepare about 5 kg of cold sweets. István Ipacs-Szabó, chief winemaker at the Research Institute, said that wine ice-cream has indeed been made elsewhere in the country, but no one has ever tasted Zenit-based ice cream He was pleased to note that the ice creams have the characteristics of the wines of the University of Pécs Wine Estate and hopes that the guests will also enjoy the wines after the ice cream.

The pairing of fresh fruit and quality wines offers a unique taste experience, perfect for a hot summer afternoon or as an elegant dessert. The collaborators hope that the wine ice-cream will soon become a favourite of the inhabitants of Pécs.

"We are proud to say that Pécs has a rich gastronomy and cultural values, but we would never have imagined that such an amazing innovation and novelty could be created from the local traditions, local gifts and such institutional-entrepreneurial cooperation," highlighted the multidisciplinary nature of the cooperation Péter Hoppál, government commissioner.

Zoltán Madaras, president of SZBKI, also said at the press conference that the artificial intelligence-based wine label, gin and wine ice cream are just the beginning, as the University Wine Estate will be introducing more specialities later this year.

Wine ice creams are available at Trüffel Cukrászda from 30 May!
